Historic Churches in New England

We have tested and studied a number of regional church buildings, in Vermont and New Hampshire.   Most of the buildings have one thing in common, they have been added to and modified a number of times during their long life span.  Since these buildings are typically not lived in, but used for Worship and Community activities and managed by committee members with conflicting goals and limited budgets, they are always challange to inspect and test.

The Infrared Thermal Imager is a key tool to finding problem areas and works well in large and high spaces such as Sanctuary's.  This helps  us to gather a tremendous amout of information, in a reasonable time period, typically in one day.

Each building had a number of areas that would benefit from weatherization and insulation and all had problems with the heating system distribution that was created by past work on these systems and were relatively easy and cost effective to upgrade/repair.

An Energy Audit is a tool that can provide a focus for Church Building upgrades and fund raising activities.

As with any other building, planning renovations with Energy Efficiency in mind is very important.                                                                           Worship building's have a wide range of funcctions and various community uses where occupancy is often a small section of the building and heating the entire building is not the best method.  Consideration of various heating systems and fuels may be used as well as evaluation of the distribution systems of piping and duct work is part of our energy audit work.
