Safety at home and Energy Efficiency

As your home is surveyed and tested for energy efficiency areas that can be corrected or improved, we apply the principle of "do no harm".

This phrase helps us to keep in mind that the "house works as a system" and safety of the occupants is very important to having a safe and comfortable home.  Areas like fire prevention and fuel burning in fireplaces and wood stoves are obvious areas to consider.  Since we test with the Blower Door and instruments, we can calculate the amout of air that leaks into and out of the building.  Old tales about making a house "too tight" are possible, but the current mantra of energy efficient building is "build it tight, ventilate it right".  With proper ventilation the occupants will get a guaranteed supply of fresh air, without wasting a lot of energy to do it.  Your home has many appliances that also use air, the kitchen and bath ventilation fans, dryer, whole house vacuum system and fuel burning appliances which need to be considered.

Every home needs safety equipment, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, CO/carbon monoxide detectors and a phone to call for emergency services.

During your home audit, we will point out safety issues we discover and pray that you will never need them but will have them on site for your family's safety and insurance.
